BASG Access Sub Group Update July 2020
This is to provide you with an update following our discussion with the BLAF (Broads Local Access Forum) last month, that it will look at the provision of Angling Access as part of its refreshed constitution as part of delivering the Broads Integrated Access Strategy.
This is a significant step forward for providing and sustaining angling access points, which forms a key component of the Broads Angling Strategy. In terms of the access group’s objectives, these are defined in our strategy.
- Maintain and improve boat & bank angling opportunities
- Address and resolve conflicts of interest
- Maintain access & anglers legal rights
- Maintain and improve slipway facilities for small boats
- Maintain and improve the urban fishery
- Facilitate and provide an infrastructure for Broads angling festivals
To provide some focus on the existing angling access points, Lewis Treloar is currently in the process of mapping all existing angling bank access for public consumption as a core delivery from the BLAF. Lewis has written to all clubs and bodies currently supplying access that has raised some questions from some what is this about. This approach has full support from BASG and can only help promote and support these assets.
To move forward, BASG will need to provide an agreed prioritised list of potential locations for development of not only angling, but that bring multiple recreational benefits to all.
The next BLAF meeting is planned for the 2nd Sep, so this BASG discussion will need to take place by the end of July to ensure papers and proposals can me developed during August for what is a public agenda for each BLAF meeting. Currently all BA meetings take place over video conference, the same as all the previous BASG meetings.
